What is the Recovery font?

Recovery brings history to bear when the blackest type is called for. Charles Coiner’s identity for the depression-era National Recovery Administration included an alphabet of heavy art deco forms distilled with a chemistry set borrowed from the modernists of the Weimar Republic. America was blanketed with Coiner’s propaganda graphics for the less than two years the NRA survived. At American Type Founders Morris Fuller Benton turned Coiner’s work into the typeface Eagle Bold. Recovery is a revival of Eagle Bold. Benton’s letters have been tweaked to provide a more intense and even wall of black than was possible with foundry type. Small caps have been added to lend titles potency. These brawny forms can beef up any headline.
